Nina Vislova and Sorokina Valeria (2014)

Last 2010, these two women created history for their home country, Russia. They won the gold medal in the women's doubles category in the European Championships which was the first medal that Russia was able to win however their success as a team did not end there. In the year 2012, they were able to make history again. Together, they became the first Russian Olympic medalists in badminton by winning the bronze medal in the women's doubles category.

 

 

Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork (2013)

Nathan Robertson is regarded as the greatest badminton player Great Britain has  ever produced and he is most remembered for his partnership with Gail Emms. Their chemistry as players has brought out the best in both of them. Together they  won several titles including a gold medal in the 2004 European Championships and a silver medal in the 2004 Olympic Games in the mixed doubles category. In 2006, they won the gold medal in the men's doubles category in the International Badminton Federation World Championships. However after the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Gail announced his retirement and Nathan was paired with Jenny Wallwork.

Greysia Polii and Meiliana Jauhari (2012)

It could be said that calling Greysia Polii an experienced player is an understatement. With several titles under her belt, this player hailing from Indonesia surely has the talent and skills needed to become a great player. This year she won in the women's doubles category in the recently held Chinese Taipei Open Grand Prix Gold and also became the runner up in the same category in the Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold. Last year, she won in the Thailand Open Grand Prix and became a runner-up in the Southeast Asian Games both for the women's doubles category. She has also worked with Meiliana Jauhari and together they won as runner-ups in the women's doubles category of the Chinese Taipei Grand Prix Gold which was held last 2011 and in the Maccau Open Grand Prix and Indonesia Grand Open Prix Gold which were both held last 2010.

Taufik Hidayat and Nova Wijaya (2011)

Taufik Hidayat is one of the legendary players from Indonesia even earning him an arena named after him. He is a World and Olympic Champion in the men's singles category. Apart from that, he has won the Indonesian Open six times. He has also won the Asian games twice. As if his record is not already hard to beat, he also holds the fastest forehand jump smash recorded in the single's competition with an astounding speed of 305 km per hour.

Markis Kido’s record is nothing short of impressive. The year 2007 was indeed remarkable for this man. He and Hendra Setiawan won the world championships, became the runner-ups in the China Super Series, won the Chinese Taipei Grand Prix Gold event, and they also claimed victory in the Hong Kong Super Series. In 2008, he won the gold medal in the men’s doubles category in the Summer Olympics and he also was victorious in the Denmark Super Series. The following year, he also won gold in the Southeast Asian Games and in 2010 he won gold in the Asian Games.

Boonsak Pansana and Sudkhet Prapakamol (2009)

Both hailing from Thailand, they each have contributed to enrich the presence of their home country  in badminton. Sudkhet Prapakamol has played for Thailand in the Thomas Cup and in 2004 he also competed in the men's doubles category of the 2004 Summer Olympics. On the other hand, Boonsak Pansana has competed and won in several matches. In 2004, he won in the Thailand Open and in 2007 he was also victorious in the Aviva Open Singapore Series. In  the following year, he won in the Indian Open Grand Prix and in 2009 he finally won a bronze medal in the Southeast Asian Games.

They started playing together in the year 2002 and this proved to be an excellent move for Denmark because in 2003 the pair won in the World Championship and that was the first win in 20 years for their home country. In the same year, they won in the China Open and they were the first Europeans to win the said title. With nothing less but an impressive streak, they held the number one position in the world ranking list.

Lee Chong Wei ,  a legend in Badminton.  After our 2007 tournament, he made a name for himself by being ranked first worldwide for 4 consecutive years from 2008-2012 . Silver medalist in both 2008 and 2012 Olympic games, he is truly one of the greatest badminton players of the world.

Koo Kien Keat, a former Asian Junior Champion he won the 2004 bronze medal in the Thomas Cup, mens doubles. 3 years after grazing our event, in 2010 , he ranked no.1 in the World tournament, Mens doubles division.

Mathias Boe and Christinna Pedersen (2015)

Mathias Boe is an internationally elite badminton player from Denmark.  In 2010  Boe won  Gold Medalsat the Denmark Super Series,  French Super Series and the Super Series Final held in Taipei. One year later,Boe and Mogensen won the All England Super Series. He is currently ranked world no.2   in  men's doubles division.

 

Christinna Pedersen is an international badminton player from  Denmark.  She is  a right-handeddoubles specialist who has gained the most success in mixed doubles. She is currently the 2014 EuropeanGold Champions both in mixed doubles and in women's doubles.  She is also the champion in the  2014 BWF Superseries  in the mixed doubles division.

She is currently ranked no. 82 in the Badminton World Federation Junior Rankings for Women's Doubles and no. 233 for mixed doubles. No. 104 in Womeb's doubles and no. 200 in mixed doubles in the overall BWF rankings.

At the 14th Sudirman Cup, Somerville is hugely popular with media and fans as the host city, Dongguan in Guangdong Province, was the hometown of her grand-grand-father, Kang Youwei (1858-1927), who co-launched a movement for a political reform, known as the Short-lived Reform Movement of 1898, during the Qing Dynasty.
